Young Swedish Design

17.9–1.11.2026

Discover the next chapter in Swedish design when Young Swedish Design 2026 comes to Älmhult – an exhibition that offers both inspiration and food for thought.

Here you’ll meet a new generation of designers and architects who interpret our times and look to the future. Through innovative projects and personal expression, they explore issues of sustainability, reuse and circularity, as well as identity, inclusion and a changing society. Each work conveys a distinct sense of materials, craftsmanship, and a strong desire to influence and tell a story. The result is design that reflects its time – and at the same time shapes it.

IKEA scholarship

This year’s IKEA scholarship has been awarded to Love Persson and his work Himmel och jord (Heaven and Earth), which takes as its starting point the harsh reality of losing a parent. Based on the theme of opposites, Love has created a range of furniture that balances between stability and unrest, between warm and cold, soft and hard. A dialogue between emotion and function, where the personal strengthens the professional.

The jury’s comments:

“This project is deeply personal to the designer. As a viewer, you are struck by two distinct impressions: the contrast between the two materials, warm and cold, old and young, rough and soft. The second impression is a feeling of instability and uncertainty. Instead of the centre of gravity being close to the bottom, it is placed high up, so high that it even breaks through the surface of the table. The result is a fascinating object with strong aesthetic qualities.”

The work scholarship includes five months of salary and paid accommodation in Älmhult, where the recipient can immerse themselves in the design process.

Since 1998, Young Swedish Design has served as a springboard for Sweden’s most promising young creatives. Every year sees hundreds of submissions, and an interdisciplinary jury selects around twenty works which, taken together, offer a unique insight into contemporary Swedish design. At the same time, scholarships are awarded by leading players in the design sector – opportunities that can lead to production, work placements, mentoring and ongoing development.

Come and experience the design of tomorrow, today.
